Robert Thomas Urbach

Robert Thomas Urbach, (a.k.a. “Coach Urbach”, “Papa’, and “Tippy”), peacefully passed away on January 27, 2026, at the Banner Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY, after a short illness.  He was born on July 9, 1949, to the late Robert and Jeanette Urbach. 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Deborah Margaret Urbach and his three children and their spouses, Nathan and Hidee Urbach, Monica and Trev Wood, and Sydney and Eamonn O’Hagan.  He is also survived by his nine adoring grandchildren, Nicholas, Abigail, Isabelle, and Haiden Urbach, Jackson, William, and Ella Wood, and Katherine and Jane O’Hagan. 

Tom graduated from the University of Montana and served as a teacher in Box Elder, Montana from 1974-75, Poplar, Montana from 1975-80, and at Greybull High School in Greybull, Wyoming for twenty-nine years from 1980 to 2008.  He served as the head Greybull High School wrestling coach for 19 years.

Standing at 5’9”, Tom was a giant among men.  As a teacher, he was uniquely able to connect with students, providing practical, honest, and kind guidance to anyone who sought it.  He saw the potential in his students and athletes and selflessly offered his time and attention to those he was entrusted with teaching and coaching.  To state that Tom had a gift is an understatement, his natural magnetism, work ethic and integrity moved and motived thousands of young men and women. Under his leadership, the Greybull High School wrestling team won nine state championship titles. For those lucky enough to know him, they will undoubtably remember him as a man who motivated them to accomplish more than they may have believed possible.  Though Tom took his role as husband, father, grandfather, friend, teacher, coach and community member with utmost seriousness, he might be best remembered for his infectious laugh, practical jokes, and lightheartedness.  Although Tom retired from teaching 2008, his presence will be missed by all those who he continued to serve in ways big and small.

Tom’s memorial service will be held at the Greybull High School Gym on March 14, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
